India’s mobility and logistics activity picked up pace in October 2026 driven by an increase in festive season freight activity as well as a broad-based spike in retail vehicle sales ahead of Diwali.
Festive demand kept truck rentals strong, with Delhi-Kolkata-Delhi reporting the highest year-on-year increase in truck rentals across all the key routes tracked at 13 per cent. Bengaluru-Mumbai-Bengaluru saw a 12 per cent growth, while other major routes like Delhi-Mumbai-Delhi and Kolkata-Guwahati-Kolkata reported high single digit growth.
The report however flagged confusion among truck operators entering the National Capital Region (NCR) border during the month as entry bans on BS IV trucks kicked in.
As for vehicle sales, two-wheelers recorded the highest growth among all vehicle categories rising 29 per cent month-on-month. Motor car sales rose by 17 per cent month-on-month while three-wheeler goods vehicles and agricultural trailers rose by 20 per cent each month-on-month. Commercial tractors grew at 15 per cent and goods carriers grew at 11 per cent. Maxi cab sales declined by 11 per cent and bus sales by 2 per cent.
Construction equipment sales saw robust growth at 25 per cent month-on-month while growing 21 per cent year-on-year.
Electric vehicle sales
Electric vehicle sales continued their strong run on a year-on-year basis. Electric car sales more than doubled with growth of 115 per cent, followed by e-three-wheelers at 93 per cent and e-two-wheelers at 62 per cent. On a month-on-month basis, e-two-wheeler sales rose by 8 per cent and e-three-wheeler sales by 5 per cent.
“Festive season dispatches kept truck rentals very strong in October. We expect the momentum to continue till the first fortnight of November. Two-wheeler, passenger car and construction equipment sales have been robust month-on-month, and with Diwali this month, the sales momentum may continue,” Sudarshan Holla, Joint Managing Director & Chief Operating Officer, Commercial Vehicles, Shriram Finance, said.
Petrol consumption rose by 4 per cent month-on-month, while diesel consumption rose sharply by 20 per cent, reflecting festive freight movement
FASTag collection volumes were up 1 per cent, while in value terms they increased up 2.3 per cent month-on-month. On a year-on-year basis, collection volumes were lower by 6 per cent, while value was higher by 9 per cent.
